To begin the battery exchange process, you will be asked for the serial number of your iBook G4 or PowerBook G4, the serial number of your battery and a shipping address.

After serial number verification, a new battery will be shipped to you, free of charge. When you receive the replacement battery, please use the same shipping packaging and included prepaid shipping label to return the recalled battery to Apple for proper disposal.

Note: If your battery serial number does not match any of the ranges listed, you do not have to exchange your battery.

Lenovo and IBM Corporation, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and other regulatory agencies, have announced the voluntary recall of certain lithium-ion batteries manufactured by Sony Corporation. In the interest of public safety, Lenovo will offer customers free-of-charge replacement batteries for all recalled batteries.

Lenovo is voluntarily recalling approximately 205,000 9-cell lithium-ion batteries. These batteries were manufactured for use with ThinkPad notebook computers that shipped worldwide between November 2005 and February 2007. In the interest of public safety, Lenovo will offer customers free-of-charge replacement batteries for all recalled batteries.

Lenovo sold the batteries with new notebook computers or as optional or replacement batteries. Please check the link below to find the effected models. If a recalled ThinkPad battery pack receives a strong external impact, the battery pack may overheat, posing a potential safety hazard to users.

Full details of which systems could be affected and how you can claim free replacements are available at www.lenovo.com/batteryprogram

On September 19 and 28, 2006 Toshiba has announced two different voluntary battery exchange programs. Toshiba has no evidence that the overheating issue that has occurred to other PC vendors associated with Sony batteries is present in Toshiba notebook computers. They do not pose any safety related issue or concern.

For each of the programs, Toshiba has developed a BatteryCheck Utility to determine if certain battery packs used in one of the notebook models or accessory batteries listed is eligible for a free replacement.

Only some - not all - of the battery packs used in these models or accessory batteries are subject to one of the voluntary battery pack replacement programs.

Details can be found on how customers can identify batteries that may potentially be affected and further information about the voluntary exchange program will be announced separately to the press and on the company’s internet pages during October.
